How binary decoding works
Binary text is a list of bytes. Each byte is 8 bits and stands for one character. To decode by hand, split the code into groups of 8, convert each group to a number, and look the number up in an ASCII table.
The code in the box above, 01001001 00100000 01101100…, decodes to I love you.
See the binary alphabet for every letter's code.
Questions
What if my binary is not a multiple of 8?
Text is stored in groups of 8 bits, so a code with a missing or extra digit cannot be read as text. Check for a typo, or use the decimal converter if it is a number.
Does it support emoji?
Yes. Emoji are decoded as UTF-8, where each one takes 2 to 4 bytes.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Decoding happens in your browser.
